These programs are both CD-ROM based (stand alone software that
is accessed or installed on computer via a CD-ROM) or web-based
(programs installed on a server and accessed via a web browser).
Our programs are designed for curricula across the Faculty but are also available for use by other institutions and organisations under a licensing agreement with The University of Melbourne.

The Autonomic Nervous System
The Autonomic Nervous System program gives an introduction to the organisation
of nervous systems within the human body, paying particular attention to
how the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) relates to other nervous systems
and the role it plays in regulating human activity.

Breathe with Ease
Breathe with Ease is a self-directed learning program that uses case studies to discuss and illustrate the clinical and pathopsychological principles of asthma.

Understanding Bile Salts and Bilirubin Metabolism
This program comprises three modules that focus on the functional and structural
relationship between liver cells, the mechanisms by which bile salts
are transported, the metabolism of bilirubin and the biochemical
tests used in the assessment of liver functions.

Child Growth and Development in the first 12 months
This program allows students to observe the progressive growth and development
of the same child over time via the use of digitised video clips of the child
performing age-related tasks and behaviours.

Child Growth and Development during the Toddler and Pre-school Years
This program allows students to observe the progressive growth and development
of the same child over time via the use of digitised video clips of the child
performing age-related tasks and behaviours.
This program was designed to complement the learning experience of students who had followed a child through the first year in the lead program of the series, Child Growth & Development in the first 12 months of life.

DNA Explorer
DNAexplorer is a self-directed program that introduces students to the use of DNA sequences and sequence databases accessed through the internet.

Kinemyo
Kinemyo aims to provide students with an understanding of mechanical principles and the structure and function of skeletal muscle as a basis for developing skills in analysis of human movement.

Fragile X Syndrome
Fragile X Syndrome is a stand-alone interactive CD-ROM integrating the genetics and clinical features of fragile X syndrome. The program covers clinical diagnosis, laboratory diagnostics, and personal perspectives.

Gas Exchange
This program demonstrates the components and processes involved in the transfer of oxygen and carbon dioxide between the lungs and tissues. Students are able to use a flexible, interactive teaching program to encourage deeper exploration of the science of gas transfer. Special emphasis is given to developing clinically oriented patient scenarios where the consequences of impaired gas exchange manifest as human disease.

Going to Hospital
The aim of this children's computer game is twofold: firstly, to demystify
the hospitalisation process and secondly, to teach children coping strategies
that will assist them to deal with anxiety producing situations encountered
while in hospital.

Kidney: Glomerular Filtatrion
This program is designed to explore the regulation of glomerular filtration in human and rat. It features a numeric simulation, case studies, multiple choice questions and a rich variety of supporting material.

Introduction to Cardiac Arrhythmias
Introduction to Cardiac Arrhythmias is designed to help students develop
beginning level skills in interpreting and analysing cardiac rhythm disturbances
(cardiac arrhythmias).

Medical GenetiX
Medical GenetiX is an interactive program that explores basic genetics concepts in a clinical context. The program deals with a range of specific genetic conditions and examines clinical and molecular aspects, laboratory testing, counselling and ethical issues. Medical GenetiX incorporates high quality media such as videos, animations and images, and enhances learning through interactive exercises and multiple choice questions that provide feedback to the user.

A flexible concept mapping tool, geared towards enabling students to organise
their learning visually. Available for free download.

Medical Considerations in Paediatric Dentistry
This project addresses case management of medically compromised dental patients
and aims to improve dental clinical management. During the past few years,
it has become increasingly difficult to access suitable patients, especially
child patients, for dental students and consequently for them to become
adequately experienced in treating patients with medical conditions.

The Patient Under the Microscope
The Patient Under the Microscope is a multimedia resource that fully integrates the basic principles of cell biology, histology and pathology with clinical problems.

Pharmacokinetics Tutorial
The Pharmacokinetics Tutorial provides students with an active learning environment
where they can appreciate and understand the relationships between variables
that are important in fundamental pharmacokinetic principles.

Sensitive Examination Technique
This program assists students to develop the clinical and communication skills necessary to explain and perform cervical screening (Pap tests) in a way that enhances, rather than inhibits the doctor-patient relationship.

Skin Atlas
The Skin Atlas is a software package that explores the histology and pathology of skin. It contains images of the histology and pathology of human skin and associated disorders.

Skin Cancer: Recognition and Management
Skin Cancer is a CD-ROM based program that aims to help students understand the risk factors, prevention strategies, features, behaviours, identificaton, diagnosis and management of the common forms of skin cancer.

Sleep Health
Sleep Health allows students to undertake wide-ranging investigations before making decisions about appropriate treatment of sleep problems.

Communicating with the Tired Patient
This program aims to assist medical students with their clinical communication skills, and to help them develop an integrated biopsychosocial approach to identifying a patient’s problems.

A Woman's Reproductive Life Cycle
This package follows the developmental journey of a woman, Andrea, throughout
her reproductive life stages from birth to menopause, incorporating puberty,
menstrual cycles, contraception, pregnancy and menopause. While 'Menstrual
Cycle' has been developed at this stage, eventually each of these life-stages
will be a module in the program.
